In the MYP, language plays a central role in communication, inquiry, and the development of critical thinking. It is integrated across all subject areas, enabling students to use language meaningfully in diverse academic and real-world contexts. The curriculum emphasizes the development of comprehensive literacy skills—including reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and presenting—through inquiry-driven and authentic tasks. Instruction is provided primarily in Persian for the dual-language stream and in English for the English-medium stream, with differentiated strategies in place to support students learning in a language other than their mother tongue.

Language acquisition is a compulsory part of the MYP, with students at SMEF studying French and optionally German. Instruction is tailored to students’ proficiency levels through phased learning, and focuses on practical communication and intercultural understanding. Mother tongue development is also valued, with resources and encouragement provided to help students maintain and celebrate their linguistic and cultural identities. Language assessment in the MYP is varied and ongoing, aligned with MYP criteria, and designed to give students feedback that promotes reflection, growth, and ownership of learning.
