Action Service

Service as Action in the IB MYP is a powerful way for students to connect their learning to real-world situations, framed through the Global Contexts. These contexts—such as globalization and sustainability, fairness and development, or identities and relationships—help students explore meaningful issues and design service experiences that are relevant and impactful. As they engage in Service as Action, students develop a range of Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, including collaboration, communication, self-management, and critical thinking. These skills support students in identifying needs, planning action, and reflecting thoughtfully on their contributions and learning. Through this process, learners embody key attributes of the IB Learner Profile—becoming caring individuals who take principled action, open-minded thinkers who consider different perspectives, and reflective learners who evaluate their impact. Service as Action transforms students into active participants in their communities and helps them grow as responsible global citizens.
